The Palm Tree is the logo of the Elim Pentecostal Churches world wide, so it is an ideal image to indicate the substance and purpose of a pioneering Christian ministry.
Palm trees are a great family of plants, called Arecaceae. Most of these are trees and some are shrubs. They normally grow in hot climates. Both Elim and Palm Trees are mentioned in the Bible in Exodus 15v27 where having found a new freedom in worship and serving God, the nation of Israel found a great place of refreshing in a dry and barren land.
In Roman days, the palm branch became a symbol of triumph and victory and the early followers of Jesus used the palm branch to symbolise their personal life of faith in Jesus Christ and His coming Kingdom. Palm Sunday is celebrated annually throughout the Christendom and includes the historical records of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem before His death on the Cross [Matthew 27:32-56, Mark 11v1, 15:21-47, Luke 19:28 & 23v26:56 & John 19:17-37].
In our contemporary society, the Palm Tree then is a reminder of the victory, peace, hope and new life that is found through living in faith in Jesus Christ and in the way of life that He taught.
